//ABOUT THIS BLOG...

Years ago, I picked up a fascination with names...their meanings...the rhythms behind them. I chose to respond to it poetically.

This blog's a collection of some of the name poems I've written over the years.

ORDER A POEM: If you'd like a name poem written for you or someone you care about, please email me at thenamepoet@gmail.com.

poem: Zhakiyah...

name poem
Zion's clearly reflected in your eyes
Happiness has found a new home in you.
Angels told me this:
Kindness will always be your virtue,
Intelligence will be your gift.
Your ancestors are proud of you
Africa is proud
Hear her; she sings for you.

I enjoyed reading your poems. When I was back-home(Persia)in my own country, I used to write a lot. I still have my notebook full of my poems. But when I came to USA, as a refugee, I got so lost in this world of capitalism, that I just become another person in persuade of the American dream, which I think is so nonsense, I mean what kind of dream is it, if all you have to think and worry about is making money and paying your next bill?
Anyway, reading your poems, took me back to when I really liked to live and weren't waiting for it to end.
Great work by the way. I really like your idea of poems for names, Very unique and artistic.

Hi,

Thanks so much for dropping by (and for the compliment). Appreciate it.

I lived in Nigeria for a while so I hear you in some ways (in regards to the pace and demands of life).

I now live in a city - London - which has its own enveloping beauties and sad distractions. To me, it's a microcosm of the human condition, of everything that is so right and so wrong with the world. Life. I suspect many parts of the USA are like that too.

Do you plan on setting your notebook of poems free one day?
